What is behind the term “Last Minute Risk Assessment”?
An LMRA (Last Minute Risk Assessment) – also known as a last-minute risk analysis or hazard reflection – is a brief safety check immediately before starting work. The aim is to consciously check the work area, the task and the work equipment used once again for possible hazards – in the proverbial “last minute” before something happens.
In contrast to traditional risk assessments, which are planned and documented over the long term, the LMRA is situational, spontaneous and person-related. It complements the occupational health and safety system and ensures that every task is started with full attention.
When is an LMRA useful?
- Before starting any new or unfamiliar activity
- In the event of changes to the working environment or work equipment used
- In case of special weather conditions or time pressure
- Whenever several people are working at the same time
