Westfalen Group uses sam® from anywhere.
Revision security, reduced administrative effort, varied teaching, and 'can be carried out from anywhere' are decisive advantages.
In 2013, the Westfalen Group launched the occupational safety software sam® as an EHS solution system introduced in the company. Alexa Jurisch (Organizational Development ZSE Human Resources) is there has been the contact person responsible for the system for all employees since 2018 and talks about her experiences and impressions of her day-to-day work in this interview.
Ms. Jurisch, for which employees do you use sam®?
“All Westfalen Group employees now have a license for sam®. Some of the foreign companies are still in the process of implementing active use.”
What are the main advantages of this online solution system for you as a company in your day-to-day work?
One major advantage is the revision security. In addition, sam® is a system for all locations. For some time now, we have had an automated interface from SAP to sam®, which reduces the administrative effort enormously. The linking of the different modules is certainly also an advantage.”
What do your employees say about sam®, how is it generally accepted and where does each individual see the advantages for themselves?
“The acceptance for mandatory training is there in any case. However, a large number of training courses are often prescribed for commercial employees by the company. The new, more modern format with a fresh look has been well received. The explanatory videos in particular lead to a varied communication of content. It would be nice if further training and instruction topics with a ‘new coat of paint’ were to follow. In any case, everyone sees it as an advantage that sam® can be carried out from anywhere at any time.”
You use various function modules. How does the overall interaction work here?
“We use the instruction system (UWS), risk assessment (GBU) and, in the near future, health management (ArbMed) modules. All modules are compatible, and the company’s organizational structure forms the basis via the interface to SAP.”
Since 2020, the coronavirus pandemic has presented companies with enormous additional challenges, particularly in the area of occupational safety. How have you been able to fulfill your duties despite numerous restrictions due to contact restrictions, social distancing, working from home, etc.? How were you able to fulfill your duties and to what extent did sam® support you?
“The Westfalen Group was already using mobile working before the pandemic. Here, sam® was already established as an online tool, so we don’t see any problems here. During the pandemic, additional training courses were offered on the topic of working from home and supplemented by our own training courses on Covid-19.”
To what extent is it already important in your day-to-day work that sam® can also be used directly on site anywhere via a mobile app? Do you think this will increase in the future?
“The mobile app solution is great. It is particularly advantageous for employees in the field. Mobile use will certainly increase in the future.”
How would you rate secova’s service in terms of advice, speed and results?
“The contact with secova is very personal. Problems are always solved quickly. In urgent cases, there is also special treatment with immediate problem solving ?
The secova team is always super friendly!”
Is there anything else you would like to see in sam® from secova in the future?
“I would like there to be a more convenient solution for creating training courses with your own content…”
(Spoiler from the secova team: work is already underway “in the background” on comfort functions for the theme editor – not only the Westfalen Group can look forward to “something cool” in the medium term…)
Ms. Jurisch, thank you for the interview!
