secova trainees active at the MINT Rallye

The MINT Rally 2024 in Rheine has started – and our trainees at secova are taking part! What exactly is the MINT Rally? The abbreviation MINT stands for mathematics, information technology, natural sciences and technology – pupils can gain their first experience in these professional fields at the rally. The first MINT Rallye took place outside in the Obi Arena at the end of August (MINT-Rallye#outdoor). Trainees from 17 companies presented their apprenticeships and, in some cases, dual study programs. All young people from the 8th grade onwards were invited. Three more MINT rallies will follow: The two at Gymnasium Dionysianum (18.09) and at Emsland-Gymnasium (7.10) will take place in schools here in Rheine. The third is a MINT & CARE rally, in which care and therapy professions are presented alongside MINT professions. It will take place on 12.11. in the Stadthalle Rheine.

All of our secova trainees took part in the first STEM rally. These include:

• Adrian and Luca (trainee IT specialists for front-end application development),
• Paul (trainee IT specialist for application development in the backend),
• Marvin (trainee IT specialist for system integration) and
• Sarina and Farin (media design trainees)

Support was provided by Jeremy as a newly trained (frontend) developer and by Dennis as a long-time secova developer – a real team project!

MINT Rallye in Rheine – Our project

What do our trainees do at the rallies? They have launched a project in which they want to present all of our training professions in an understandable way. Some professions, such as system integrator, are difficult to explain clearly, so many future trainees have no idea what they involve. Our trainees therefore had the idea of developing and designing a computer game themselves called “make IT work!“. This now shows our “Super-Marvin” (system integration trainee) whizzing through our digital office and completing tasks. It can therefore happen that colleagues contact you in the game and need help with their computer or printer. His profession is illustrated by the fact that you can grab the controller and become Super Marvin yourself.

Our other STEM training professions are not ignored either. Our application development trainees developed the game themselves and built it step by step. More and more properties and tasks have been added. Our media designers’ training occupation is also recognizable thanks to the retro look they have chosen for the game, making it easy to explain. Everything that can be seen in the game was created using a special program and sent directly to the developers: From the map, which is designed like the office, to the objects you can interact with and the game characters. The first conclusion of our trainees: “The atmosphere within the team was very good, we had a lot of fun and there were already some who were interested in the game and our company.”
