Instead of Christmas cards: secova prefers to donate

It has already become a tradition – we at secova do not send Christmas greetings by post. We are happy to round up the postage costs saved and donate the amount to charity. This December 2021, we will be donating a total of 40,000 euros to various initiatives and organizations. Because doing good brings joy to everyone – especially in these times.

When secova makes donations, it is particularly important to us that our donations are received as directly as possible and that incidental costs do not eat up a valuable part of them. But we also want to assume social responsibility without any form of exclusion. Donations instead of postage – and we prefer to make a video for our customers and friends. This is how we help those in need and protect the environment at the same time.

In recent years, we have already been able to support Unicef, children’s hospices, the Heiligenweg School and the Bunte Kreis Münsterland e.V. (Bunte Kreis Münsterland e.V.). At the end of this year, we have chosen a total of five organizations and initiatives to receive a donation. These are:

• German child protection association Ortsverband Rheine e.V. – 5,000 euros
• Die Transporteure – Hilfe für Menschen in Not e.V. – 10,000 euros
• Rheine Waldorf School Support Association – 5,000 euros
• Plan International Deutschland e.V. – 10,000 euros
• Lichtblicke e.V. – 10,000 euros

The“Deutscher Kinderschutzbund (DKSB) Ortsverband Rheine” sees itself as a counseling center against physical, psychological and sexual violence against children and adolescents as well as their neglect. The range of services is broad, and all children and young people are seen as individuals who cannot be categorized simply as “perpetrators” or “victims”. The DKSB thus offers support both for those affected and for children and young people who have been sexually assaulted – holistically, under a duty of confidentiality and, if necessary, anonymously. Other important pillars are prevention work plus targeted further and advanced training courses.

“Die Transporteure” is a non-profit organization that provides help for people in need in Romania. Originally founded by employees of Sparkasse Siegen, the association focuses on “helping people to help themselves”. Two special “heart projects” are the “House of Light” and the “St. Luke’s Hospital”. The “House of Light” looks after children with disabilities, some of them severe and multiple. Under expert supervision, they not only receive targeted support, but also experience love and care. At the “Lukas-Spital”, an old village school was turned into a hospital where seriously ill people and severely disabled young people in particular receive personal care and (long-term) nursing care – usually until the end of their lives.

The aim of the “Rheine Waldorf School Support Association” is to promote and maintain a free public education system based on Waldorf education in Rheine and the surrounding area. The operation of the still young Waldorf School in Rheine is supported, for example, by promoting musical, artistic and therapeutic work. The association also contributes to the implementation of the all-day operation, as well as to the provision of good organic food for schoolchildren and teachers.

“Plan International Germany” is committed to ensuring that girls and boys worldwide have equal rights and opportunities and can actively shape their future. The aim is for children to receive both rapid and long-term help. Comprehensive projects for long-term reconstruction and disaster preparedness accompany immediate humanitarian aid, for example in acute emergency situations.
In crises, hundreds of thousands of children are separated from their parents and are often exposed to violence, exploitation and hunger without protection. In addition, there is massive psychological stress. This is why Plan International promotes the creation of safe protection zones for children, where they can process what they have experienced and find new support.

The“Lichtblicke” campaign helps children in North Rhine-Westphalia whose families are in need – whether materially, financially or emotionally. The association has been supporting the smallest and weakest members of our society since 1998. People who have suffered severe strokes of fate in particular need support. Children in particular suffer from the emergency situations of their families, who can no longer find a way out on their own. The help is multifaceted: the spectrum ranges from a warm meal a day for the needy to handicapped-accessible conversions for seriously ill children. Necessary treatments and therapy materials are also financed – as well as vacation camps for children who have never been able to go on vacation.

We at secova are delighted to be able to help and support children in particular with our donations this year. Thinking about the smallest and weakest members of our society is something we should all do, and not just at Christmas time. Nevertheless, it is a good time for many people to make a concrete contribution. It’s great if you think – and act – the same way…
